At Boult Cummings, we recognize that fostering diversity is not only crucial to the firm's long-term success, but also imperative to maintaining and enhancing a fulfilling workplace.  Accordingly, we are committed to cultivating diversity in our workforce, ideas and expertise, and to ensuring that sensitivity, tolerance and appreciation of individual differences characterizes our work environment.  To ensure continued development in the area of diversity, we have chartered a Diversity Committee charged with promoting diversity within the firm and educating our workforce on the firm's diversity policies and objectives.  The Diversity Committee prepared and our firm has approved a Firm Diversity Plan (the "Plan"), which outlines the diversity goals we plan to achieve over the next few years, and details how we intend to accomplish these goals.  The Plan consists of several components, including:
  • A recruiting initiative - applying strategies for increasing overall diversity at Boult Cummings.
  • A retention initiative - employing tactics for retention of a talented and diverse workforce.
  • A leadership initiative - implementing strategies that recognize that the leadership of our firm should not only be educated about diversity, but should reflect diversity.
  • An accountability initiative - recognizing that mere commitment is nothing without action.
  • An external advisory board - creation of a board, consisting of various community leaders, clients and alumni of the firm, who will meet with us regularly to evaluate and critique our efforts in connection with the Plan.

In addition to the Plan, Boult Cummings' commitment to diversity is evidenced by the firm's support of community organizations that advance diversity.  Many of our attorneys actively participate in and serve on boards of a variety of community organizations, including the Nashville Minority Business Center, the Napier-Looby Bar Association, Fisk University and the Marion Griffin Chapter of the Lawyers Association for Women.  In addition, Boult Cummings annually invests in the Nashville Bar Association's Minority Opportunities Program -- a broad-based effort to recruit minority law students to Nashville and to help educate area high school students about the many opportunities available in the legal profession.  We encourage involvement and support our attorneys in their community endeavors, not only to further their own personal and professional development, but also because we believe that the success and advancement of our firm depends upon it.

Boult Cummings' commitment to diversity parallels our commitment to meeting the highest standards of quality, service and innovation for our clients, and is reflected in our recruiting practices and our support of community organizations.  Our appreciation of the benefits of diversity in the workplace leads us to assess our efforts continually and aggressively identify areas for improvement and creatively address any obstacles we encounter along the way.
